Parole

If you have served more than half your sentence and have behaved well in prison, you may be released on parole. Parole means you can be released from prison before you have completed your sentence, on condition that you do not misbehave when you are out of prison. Your sentence still runs, but you do not have to stay inside prison as long as your behaviour is good. If your behaviour outside prison is not good, you go back to prison for the rest of your sentence. The Parole and Correctional Supervision Amendment Act extends the powers of the courts to make sure that a prisoner serves a compulsory period of his/her sentence before they can be considered for parole. Parole Boards have the authority to control the release of prisoners on parole.
