Why Is Early Diagnosis of TB Important?

The systematic and early identification in adults with a persistent cough lasting two weeks or more (particularly among outpatients in health facilities) is important, as this reduces treatment delays and identifies infectious patients who are a risk to the community and to others in their workplace. Early diagnosis and effective treatment reduces the chances of dying from TB, and transmission of TB to others.
