HIV/AIDS and Rights

The Bill of Rights has a list of fundamental rights of all people living in South Africa. In addition to the right of equality under the Equality Clause (s9 of the Bill of Rights), these rights are also extremely important. The Constitution includes many rights, but most important for people living with HIV and AIDS are the socio- economic rights such as the right to basic health care, education, social services, shelter, and so on. The government has a duty to provide as many of these services as it can afford.
