HIV stands for the Human Immune Deficiency Virus. This virus attacks the immune system which is the body’s defence agains tdisease. HIV can live in our bodies for years without us looking or feeling sick in any way. Most people with HIV feel healthy and are able to work and live healthy lives for many years. It is only when a person develops an AIDS-related illness that he or she becomes very ill.
AIDS is caused by HIV. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. It is the name given to a group of serious illnesses that are caused by your body being unable to fight infections. People with HIV or AIDS are more likely to get some diseases and infections because of their immune system cannot fight them off.
